The seafood sustainability community has now recognized that their work in the seafood industry may be fraught with labour and social risks that they are unable to address without any real relationships of trust with workers, or requisite expertise in labour rights and pro-labour programming.  FLIP aims to demonstrate how identifying and mitigating labour risks in fishing requires empowered worker voice and sustained efforts on ethical labour recruitment systems, and remediation of exploitative working conditions and recruitment fees - essentially, entrenched human rights issues that cannot be identified or solved through audit-compliance approaches.
